Default Stars $30 two-tabler steal attempt

11 remain in a Stars $30 two-table NLHE event. We are five handed and I have 1800 or so. Blinds are 50-100.

On the button I have KT. All fold to me. SB has 1000 chips, BB 4000.

I raise to 300 on a semi-steal. Comments?

SB folds, BB calls. Flop comes KQT rainbow, giving me top and bottom pair but a scary looking board to say the least.

BB checks. Pot is 650, I have 1500. I move in.

Comments?

Guy.

P.S. This is kind of a bad beat story as it turns out, but I am really interested to know what you all think of my play. I've been running bad for 12 days now and am beginning to suspect it's me rather than the cards. Please help!

I can see playing it exactly the same way as you.

I find I lose alot with KT, lately I haven't been playing them unless the table is shorthanded. In your case It looks like it didn't work. Is there anyone out there that hardly ever plays KT? I just posted about playing small pairs. I need to stay away from them for a while, or all together in NL play. I lost a couple tourneys because of them.

I don't play KT for its card-value. It's trash. I muck it pretty regularly.

However, in a tournament, at a five handed table, when I'm on the button and it's folded to me, I will often raise with it, mainly because there's a good chance of winning the blinds uncontested, and if I get called there's half a chance of making a winning hand.

Of course there's also the chance of getting badly burned when you flop two pair and get called...

Guy.

I would have made it T400 preflop to confront the BB with worse than 2:1 pot odds if the SB folds and to manipulate the pot size such that I can get my stack in with a single bet w/o too much overbetting.

I personally don't like KToff. It's the hand for me, where I can flop top pair and not even be happy about. I just lost too much with it.
The would probably only play it to steal the blinds if no one entered the pot and I'm on the button. Or if I'm SB or BB.

However to get to the original post. Your play was ok, wouldn't have played it else, may be raised a little more at that stage of the tourney.
