I just reinstalled Windows XP.

The wireless icons on my computer show that i am connected to the internet, but i can't get Internet explorer to actually work.

Other computers work on the wireless network.

can anyone help me?

Is it possible that you have Windows Firewall up, and that it is blocking Internet Explorer? Do you have any other programs that can make a connection, or are you failing to get anything?
