biology question DNA and eukaryotic cells
Can anyone tell me if the development of eukaryotic cells, cells with a nucleus, coincides exactly with the evolution of DNA? I.e. did one involve before the other or no?

Re: biology question DNA and eukaryotic cells
DNA was around before eukaryotes were. Bacteria have DNA, and bacteria-like organisms were around before eukaryotic cells were.

Re: biology question DNA and eukaryotic cells
Great, thanks. How closely did the origin of the eukaryotic cell coincide with the development of multicellular organisms on an evolutionary timescale?

Re: biology question DNA and eukaryotic cells
Eukaryotic cells came much earlier. All cells in multicellular organisms are eukaryotic and single cell organisms evolved first.
If you look on google for something like "biological time scale" or "biological evolution time scale" you're almost certain to find the answers to these questions and related ones. |
