AC - High-Low Stud Games
I posted this originally on the Brick and Mortar Forum, but someone suggested I post this here. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone here know which casinos in Atlantic City spread 7 Card Stud High/Low games, and what the limits are available? I've recently become intrigued by the game, and would definitely be willing to play it at a lower limit as an alternative to Holdem to liven things up a bit. I know a lot of the casinos spread regular stud games, but I've never really paid attention to all of the stud games, because in the past I only have played No Limit Holdem. |

Re: AC - High-Low Stud Games
If you're only interested in stud8, Taj spreads a 10-20 Half and Half game (other game is Omaha8) with a half kill. I think there is also a 3-6 version of this. Trop has 15-30-45 stud8 sometimes. There are very few straight stud8 games in AC (or anywhere really).
As for stud high, Taj is the capital of the world. They have 5-10, 10-20, 15-30, 20-40, 30-60, 75-150, and higher. Jeff |

Re: AC - High-Low Stud Games
Doesn't the Tropicana have a 1-5 Stud High game? I could swear the last time I was there playing 1-2 NL, that there was a huge waiting list for 1-5 (which is why I noticed it). I don't have a bankroll large enough for most of those games (though I could play the 3-6 if I learned to play Omaha eventually), though I could probably handle a 1-5 stud game, if it wasn't too crazy.
Do you have any suggestions on how to learn to play stud and stud 8 without going broke at the higher limits? I can't afford to play 10/20 or anything like that, yet it seems like lower limits simply don't exist. I did do a play money Stud 8 Sit & Go on Party Poker, and I won it, though I don't take much out of that, considering that it's not real. But I guess it's better than nothing. Hopefully when my schedule gets less busy, I can read up on 7 card stud high, and maybe try that out. I'll be in Las Vegas after Christmas, but I doubt I'd feel confident enough to try a stud game there (assuming I could even find one). |

Re: AC - High-Low Stud Games
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mention those games. Taj, Trop and (I think Borg) have 1-5 games. Taj has 1-3 also. I didn't mention these games because they are generally pretty boring, low action affairs. But, if you get a loose table, it can be profitable, just play tight as balls.
See you at the stud tables someday...I'm at Taj quite often. I think I'm gonna go on Saturday..yea, I'm gonna go. Jeff |

Re: AC - High-Low Stud Games
Hmm. The 1-3 Taj Mahal game sounds enticing. I still wouldn't play it right now, as I'd like to at the very least read a book on it before I play (I read about half of Chip Reese's chapter in a bookstore, and I've read Todd Brunson's chapter on High/Low). I don't care so much about playing with older people, as long as they aren't mean.
A few of the 1-2 NL tables I've played at in Atlantic City have been awful as far as how much fun the table was to play at. A lot of times the younger college aged students are the worst to play with, since they think they are Doyle Brunson, and aren't very sociable. It's hit or miss many times. The last time I played at the Taj Mahal, I hit a great 1-2 NL table, and it was a good mix of older/middle aged/younger people (I am mid-20s myself). I guess it's luck of the draw. Do you say to avoid the tight games because they are tough to beat, or because they are no fun? |

My one visit to the Taj lasted less than an hour, but it seems to me that Foxwoods has significantly more stud games.

Re: AC - High-Low Stud Games
If you're looking to play lower limits, I suggest you play on-line. Stud/8 isn't spread very much in casinos, and most of the games that do go are middle limit and higher. The Tropicana had a nice $15/30/45 stud/8 game when I was there about a year ago. Don't know how strong that is. I think that $20/40 stud/8 is still played in the big LA clubs.
Canterbury Park in Minnesota had a $6/12 game that was going fairly regularly for a while. I haven't been there in a few weeks, and it wasn't going the last time I was there, so I don't know if that's still the case. I think Foxwoods sometimes has a $2-10 spread-limit stud/8 game. The problem with small stud/8 games in a casino is that most rooms rake $4 or more from each pot. Unless the game is loose, it can be hard to make any money. Often, the only one making any money is the house, and since they make more off of other games, they don't have a whole lot of incentive to spread the game. |
