AJ suited on button, tough decision
$3 tournament on Pokerstars.
Blinds 300/600...I have 6506. Average is 9000. Table has been playing pretty tight. I am on the button with AJ diamonds. Everybody folds to me. The SB has 11,718 chips and has been playing tight. The BB has 5430 chips before posting the 600. This is a good time to raise, right? I raise 1200 to 1800. The SB folds. The BB re-raises all in for 3630 more. The pot now contains 7530 chips. Call or fold? |

Re: AJ suited on button, tough decision
I don't see how you can throw this away. Villian may put you on a steal and push back w/any weak ace or something as weak as QT.
Even if it's AQ or KK, you're 3 to 1 or 2.5 to 1. Pot's laying you 2-1, so I gamble here on the chance that I'm ahead, and hate it (and suck it up) the times I'm not. |

uhh
Call. There is like no getting away from AJ here unless the stacks are deep...which they aren't. BB's range is probally huge. |

Re: AJ suited on button, tough decision
I'm calling this in a heartbeat, and honestly I probably open push on the button here. AJ is a great hand against the blinds, and you're getting too short to fold here.

Re: AJ suited on button, tough decision
this is not tough. i make this push often against open button raisers with absolute trash, and thanks to weak-tighties like you who actually think of folding it, it works.

If I fold this I can still have around 5,000 chips left. I ended up calling and being behind when the villain flipped over pocket sevens. The flop: 7 4 2. I was crippled. I shouldn't be upset with my call? |

Re: AJ suited on button, tough decision
you certainly can't always expect to be dominating the BB in this spot. you have to be expecting a coinflip or race situation. any time you get money in and you're not dominated by aces, kings, queens or jacks here, it's a good spot to be in.
your post is so results oriented. would you post this same thing if the flop came AAJ, wondering whether or not it was a good call? |

Re: AJ suited on button, tough decision
How can you be upset? You were getting 2:1 on the call and you got a coinflip. The cards came out badly for you, but your play was correct. You can't make weak-tight laydowns, especially with a below average stack.
