Boring 10/20 blind hand: feigning weakness on the turn
Villian is a 30/20 TAG, pretty sure he'd autobet this turn.
I pick up A3o in the SB and open raise, BB calls. Flop is AA4 with two clubs. I bet, BB calls. Turn is a 8d. I check, BB bets, I raise, BB calls. River is the K of hearts. I bet, BB calls. Smart turn c/r or should I just have continued to fire away? |

Re: Boring 10/20 blind hand: feigning weakness on the turn
reasoning? I feel like I should mix it up to keep my opponents on their toes and not make it seem like I give up whenever I check; in addition, I do get the extra bet when he calls down. Basically this is the defense against the habitual caller who will call if you continue to bet, and bet if you check the turn.

I'll remember to come back to this thread and express my ideas more fully after I finish playing for the day.

Re: Boring 10/20 blind hand: feigning weakness on the turn
Against a TAG like this, I'm more inclined to just keep firing. If he paired that 8 or is slowplaying some pocket pair, you'd really like to give him the opportunity to raise so you can 3-bet. I'm assuming he knows you're fairly aggro with your SB raising standards so he's probably not giving you credit for an A. This just seems like a great board for him to bluff on the turn, might as well get an extra BB out of him for when he raises your auto bet.
Edit: I noticed your comment about protecting your hand against "sponge" type players (call when bet to in position, but bet when checked to). I don't think a 30/20 TAG player falls into this category. He is a much more complex character where in some cases you can cause a fold, and others he may bluff. In other words, he hits the extremes more often than a typical sponge player. Against this type of player I find it better of to just bet your good hands hard. He won't put you on an A and will raise this turn with any PP, a club draw semi-bluff, paired 8, or even a K. Since the chance of a raise with these hands is significantly better vs. this TAG than a sponge, I bet out again. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't think he's often calling down much after your 3-bet, whereas the turn check-raise may be strange enough to warrant a calldown more often. I guess it depends on how I view his ability to get away from his hand. |
