Default 15-30 Party hand to talk about

I have 8h 8s in 2nd position. UTG folds, I limp, next 3 fold, loose player limps, everyone else folds, sb completes, bb checks. 4 players, 4 small bets.

Flop: 7d 2d 2h

sb checks, bb checks, I bet, loose player calls, sb folds, bb raises, I 3-bet, loose player folds, bb 4-bets, I call.

Turn: Ad, so board is 7d 2d 2h Ad.

bb bets, I call.

River: 5s, so final board is 7d 2d 2h Ad 5s.

bb checks. Should I check or bet?

Preflop I think you should raise.

On the river I would bet and call a raise. He probably has a 7.

Raise preflop. Bet the river.

I would bet the river if I felt comfortable folding to a check-raise. In this spot, I would feel comfortable folding to a check-raise, so I would bet.

Do you usually raise PF with 88 in EP? How do you adjust playing 88 in various games?

IMHO, this is close. Note that hero was UTG+1. If UTG limped, I would advocate limping as well. I would also not raise if I had 77. If I had 88 UTG, it'd be very close between limping and raising, but I would definitely raise 99. This is assuming a standard Party 15/30 game.

I wouldn't raise 88 til mp1.

UTG+1 i'd limp.

9's i'd raise UTG+1 though. I used to auto-raise 99 utg but i've been leaning more towards limping as of late.

I've taken to raising 88 UTG, because it varies my UTG range, it takes out more players who might limp along with nines, tens and jacks combos, and makes it less likely the blinds will be in the hand. And when you do flop a set, you will likely still get action from other big hands.

On the counter side you might want more people in the hand when you do flop it, you have a poor position but I shrug and check thinking inanely that checking basically gives me position behind everyone else

So raise preflop.

Bet for sure. You win every time you're not against 99.

Yes, exactly, if you are checkraised you can dump this hand. But you're not going to be.
