Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
Don't mean to make a repeat thread about something like this, especially after the big neteller related thread on the first page. I couldn't find anything like this, though.
I received a very suspicious e-mail from Neteller a few days ago. [ QUOTE ] HI xxxxxx, For security reasons, we do need you to change your password to something completely different. Failure to do so can result in the closure of your neteller account. regards. ____________________________________________ Shawn Mercer Senior EFT Officer EFT Department shawn@NETeller.comToll Free: 888.258.5859 Local: 403.233.9466 Fax: 403.277.7996 www.NETeller.com [/ QUOTE ] The message is flagged as important, the return address is just "Shawn@neteller.com," the title of the e-mail is just "neteller" (no capital letters, no subject). Anyone else receive anything like this? My account has not been touched, but I'm obviously a little worried. I'll be contacting them about it soon. |

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
I smell BS. Forward the email to Neteller.
A neteller employee should never ask for a PW, though I notice this email did not either. That might be coming though. |

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
Yeah, it looks wonky to me too, but I'd recommend checking the raw message source to see where the theoretical link to Neteller at the bottom actually goes to (a typical banking scam these days is to point the user to a very convincing facsimilie of their actual bank's website).
The only other thing I can think of is that it's a far-too-complicated plot involving a keylogger, but the bad guys wouldn't need you to change your password if that were the case. |

Forward to neteller support. The grammar and such looks fishy.

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
That's shady. If I were you I'd move all my money out of Neteller and then send them a copy of the E-mail.
Good luck, Matt |

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
A year ago I got a fake email titled Jason@NETeller.com that included an attachment and not much else.
I contacted NETeller and they confirmed it wasn't from them. Be careful and never open attachments in zip form. |

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
fwiw, i recently just talked to neteller on the phone about some transaction problem, and they told me that i had to change my password, also to something completely different. they didnt mention closing my account though. of course this doesnt mean the email you received wasnt a scam.

Re: Suspicious letter from \"neteller\"
I got a similar letter from paypal or paypro or something a couple of weeks ago. It looks like the email and web adress is real but when you check what adress it really directs you to, it is a totally different one.
just hold your cursor on the email adress in the original letter. does it say "mailto:shawn@neteller.com" in the down left corner? |
