Default STARS $150

Flamed out of super monday fairly early, but doing quite well in the Stars $150+12. 14K. Good for 11th out of 78 remaining. Was 3rd at one point but lost w/JJ to 55. Any other 2+2ers in?

Yeah, that was the "tight player" from my last post. Maybe not as tight as I thought...

Default A hand from the STARS 150

Shortly after I made the last post.

I'm in the SB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 10[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Blinds 300/600 a50. Full table (9 players).

Player who I had noted as weak-tight (T8800) open limps from CO-2. I complete (T13,500). BB checks. Pot is 2250.

Flop is 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I bet 1500. BB folds. Limper calls.

Turn is 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] giving me a gutshot to go with my top pair. I bet 2K. Limper raises 2800 to 4800 total (leaving him with less than 2000 back).

What do you do?

I folded. This sure looked like a set of 3s or 6s to me. He said later he had a "high pair." Not sure if I believed him. Seems odd to limp a high pair after 3 have already folded, but as I said he did seem a bit weak-tight.

If I thought that all my outs were good (3 9s, 2 10s, 4 8s) it's possible I should have called, but really the problem is that if I don't improve, there's no way I can fold my pair on the river when he'll bet ~2K into a pot with ~14K, so really I have to think of his whole stack when considering the odds, I think. And like I said, I thought it was definitely possible that i needed to hit the straight to win.

Default In the $$

Got in with about 17K, but immediately picked up A9o on the button. Open raised to 2K (blinds 400/800 a50) and got called by chip leader (60K) in the BB (who had just moved when we got into the money). He calls. Flop is J high with 2 hearts. I bet 3K. He goes all-in. I fold.

Part of me was sure he was going to do that, but I don't see how I don't play it like that. Maybe a bigger preflop raise?

I think you played that hand fine. I may check to him on the flop, and hope to get a free card, as he can double you through, and it won't hurt him much. I think he puts all his chips in after your bet on the flop with any pair.

Yeah. I just don't like to get in the habit of checking when I miss too often. I guess this was probably a good place to do it. If I'd flopped some kind of draw, I would have...
