I used to play in this 5-5 game at one of the poker outfits around Pittsburgh. I was an average winner in the game and I played maybe 20-30 sessions. This game is very passive especially post flop and is full of donks. I quit playing in this game pretty much to focus on online poker 3/6 and 5/10 limit and now I want to get back to this game. My questions for you all are:
What is a proper bankroll for NL? (I datamined for this, yet could not find.) I actually bought in for 200 when I played in this game, my friend who has success in this game also normally bought in for 200. It seems to work well should I buy in for more less, is this okay if it works? (I ask this because my sample size is small for this game) |

It depends on your variance. Obviously the tighter you play, the less often you'll get involved in marginal situations and have smaller swings, thus not needing as large a bankroll. Though even then, if the game plays crazy, and you often have to put your whole stack in pre-flop you'll need a larger bankroll. For most people though, I think something in the neigborhood of 10 buy-ins should do it. I would say at least $2,000 in this case maybe $3k.

ive never had a downswing of more than 6 buy ins, but i get nervous when i lose 1/4 of my bankroll, i'd hate to lose over half of it, i'd have to seriously drop down in stakes.
i advise 15 buy ins minimum... i also don't mind getting into marginal/coin flip type situations if i'm the one doing the betting so that's where the variance comes in. i've always waited until having 20 buy ins to move up where i play other stakes consistently, but i'm pretty conservative in that respect. |

Interesting... just recently on this forum, people were saying that 10 buyins was Ok.
Obviously, if you were to go with 10 buyins, you'd need to drop down a limit or two if things didn't go your way even in the first session. I just moved up with about 11 or 12 buyins, and I gotta admit that this feels risky to me. I have set a loss limit, though, so if I go below a certain level I've gotta drop down and rebuild. Marlow |

Thanks for the input.
I think 20 sounds about right, seems likes the best number to go with. 10 is just way too little in my mind. One bad session and you are toast! |

what kind of wack 5-5 game allows a $200 stack to not only survive, but thrive

One bad session and you are toast! [/ QUOTE ] Why? Do you plan on blowing 10 buyins in 1 session? |
