Default Mucked or no?

My only B&M experience is at my home town casino. Last week a few tourists were at my table and one put the final bet in on the river. He had one caller and when asked to show threw his hand over the line ... face down. The dealer shrugged, pulled his cards in and shipped the pot to the caller, who threw his two pair face up.

The bettor got quite upset and claimed he had a straight. I have no trouble believing him: he was pretty passive but bet this hand hard. The dealer called the floor and they determined that a hand thrown over the muck line face down is mucked, even if the action is closed on the river.

This ruling didn't surprise me either. It's not uncommon to see local fish throw in a river bet, decide that a caller means they must be beat, and muck their hand despite a ten big bet (or bigger) pot.

The younger tourist at the table was disgusted, however, and claimed that in Vegas the best hand is the best hand, and that you can't fold a hand after showdown. Has anyone had experience with this? I know the cards speak, but don't you have to give them a voice by turning them face up?

Default MUCKED!!!!!!!!

Mr. Whiner's claims that vegas this, vegas that are simply pure bullchit. In VEGAS, as in any other cardroom with any sensibility in the entire world, if you throw your cards in face down, they are MUCKED!

More importantly is the reason WHY.

A dealer may NOT turn up a live, but face-down hand, EVER! That is one of the biggest no-no things possible for a dealer to do! If a player tosses them in face down, they are MUCKED and the dealer should very quickly and without delay get those mucked cards into the muckpile already!
