Re: Anyone have a grasp on J.P. Sartre?
Sartre is very hard to understand. His readings are the hardest to grasp out of all the philosophy I have read. GL sorry can't really help you

Re: Anyone have a grasp on J.P. Sartre?
hi, i suggest you do a search and read a few monographs on the specific subjects you are interested in. there are tons of them out there. can't resist this opportunity to tell an interesting sartre story. when he was teaching at the sorbonne (during the period of 'being and nothingness') he addressed the lecture hall and said--i have just shown you that god does not exist, could not exist, and is a totally meaningless concept....................and all the time i know he is up there watching me do it. i think s. displayed great humor, but also gave us something worthy of deep consideration....................b

Re: Anyone have a grasp on J.P. Sartre?
[ QUOTE ]
can't resist this opportunity to tell an interesting sartre story [/ QUOTE ] My favorite Sartre story is http://www.geocities.com/sartresite/sartre_theses3.html [ QUOTE ] For several years more, I maintained public relations with the Almighty. But privately, I ceased to associate with Him. Only once did I have the feeling that He existed. I had been playing with matches and burned a small rug. I was in the process of covering up my crime when suddenly God saw me. I felt His gaze inside my head and on my hands. I whirled about in the bathroom, horribly visible, a live target. Indignation saved me. I flew into a rage against so crude an indiscretion, I blasphemed, I muttered like my grandfather: "God damn it, God damn it, God damn it." He never looked at me again. [/ QUOTE ] This has overtones of the unforgiveable sin - a good example also of Romans 1-3. |
