Default 2+2er makes me wimp out on the river

Since I've started playing micros seriously the last few months, this is the largest pot I've been in. Some of you probably see it a lot, but I'm lucky to play an hour or two a few days a week.

Anyway, I didn't know at the time that the "villian" in this hand was a 2+2er, until he popped out the "brown trout" quote later.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 raises, CO 3-bets, 1 fold, SB calls, Hero caps, UTG calls, MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, SB calls.

Flop: (25 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (6 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO raises, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, UTG calls, MP3 calls, CO caps, SB calls, Hero calls, UTG calls, MP3 calls.

Turn: (22.50 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, UTG calls, MP3 calls, CO raises, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, UTG calls $1.75 (All-In), MP3 calls, CO calls, SB calls.

River: (36.37 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players, 1 all-in)
SB checks, Hero bets, MP3 folds, CO raises, SB folds, Hero calls.

So...who 3-bets here? I've been on a bad downswing lately with TT, so that might have made me a little gunshy. Can you ever put someone on quads or a str. flush?

Final Pot: 40.37 BB
Main Pot: 31.87 BB, between Hero, UTG and CO.
Pot 2: 8.50 BB, between Hero and CO.

I would atleast 5-bet this if it was allowed.

He 3-bet preflop. He saw you cap. I put him on AA, maybe 99.

Putting him on 99 puts him on quads. Still 3-bet? Faced with it again I probably will, but just wondering.

I think he as an overplayed over-pair much more often than he has quads or better.

You can pretty much rule out a str8 flush from his preflop action and most people won't 3-bet 99.

Why wouldnt he cap the turn if thats what he had?

Yeah, I didn't notice that at the time, one of my other tables had popped up. Looking back on the hand history I realize it was an easy river 3-bet.

Well looking at the hand it is obvious he doesn't have a str8 flush and probably very very likely he doesn't have quads since he didn't cap the turn but you said you were somewhere else when it came back to you.

But if he had capped the turn I have read in two places that if you have the upper end of a full house you are supposed to bet like str8 flushes and quads are not possible hands because in these rare cases you are ahead much much more than you would be behind. Don't know if it is true but this it what I've read
