JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
Party 200 NL full ring. Villain has $230, I have him covered. He didn't sit down long ago, I don't really have any read on him.
I get J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in the SB. 2 folds, Villain raises to $8. I call, BB calls. Flop is 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet out $14. Is this typical? Is the size of the bet right (2/3 pot)? Should I be doing this always or just playing JJ for set value? Should I do the same thing with 99-QQ on any ragged board? Comments appreciated. |

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
You can do this with any two cards on a dry board...

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
I like it.
Its much safer than the checkraise to see if he is continuation betting route. its 9 high, so unless if he is on TT, you aren't that afraid of him raising you on the flop with a worse hand and making you fold. |

Again, you can do this with any two cards, whereas you have a hand that's good enough to see showdown, and certainly beats most of what villain will bet with here. |

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
I agree you should do this with any 2 therefore you shouldn't do any differently with JJ.
you might react differently to a flop raise with JJ than with any 2. |

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
it's pretty good, but lately i've found that check/call and lead the turn works better. it lets you see the action of others on the flop and catches the continuation bet from a missed AK. it may also have some fold equity against QQ-AA.

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
Results: Villain, who originally raised, raised me to $42, and I folded.
He ended up showing down QQ Ryan |

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
Unfortunately I cant suggest a way of playing the hand because I badly suck at playin TT and JJ.
I just want to notice that there is no such a thing like folding equity vs QQ-AA on this flop at SSNL games. Best wishes |

Re: JJ probe bet. Is this routine?
i did say may have some fold equity
but seriously, it somewhat depends on the turn card. if the turn is a [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] or an 8 or a T, then I think Villain would have a hard-time calling. you need a read that they have a clue that the fold button exists, but this is the play to make against players that will try to put you on a hand. EDIT: also, even if Villain doesn't fold, it may get you to showdown cheaply. if he calls your turn bet and you check the river, you're likely to get a check behind from QQ. |
