Re: 77 vs. maniac
Bizarre hand. The big overbet at the end reeks of you being beat, but who knows with maniacs?
I want to say raise somewhere, but with ginormous stacks and a crazy opponent, it just seems too risky. I like calling down. |

Re: 77 vs. maniac
Betting into you after a largish PF raise could mean anything, but it seems statistically unlikely that he has a trey; more likely, he has a ace-rag, paint-rag, or a flush draw and is trying to push you off missed overcards.
Reads are key here; some maniacs will wilt under pressure and some will not. Against the (more common) unfoldable maniac, I drop this on the flop. Although you are probably ahead, you'll also probably end up paying quite a bit to see a couple more cards that are unlikely to improve your hand, leaving you with a coin flip at best. If you are fortunate enough to have a maniac is capable of folding a hand, your other option is to put in a fat pot-size raise on the flop and see what develops. If he bets into you again on the turn then you can fold it unimproved; if not, a 2/3 PSB might take it down there. Either way, you have a very vulnerable holding that probably won't improve, so you don't really want to see any more cards. |

Re: 77 vs. maniac
The size of the final bet would make me think he has an overpair or quads.... possibly 55,66 but more likely 88 through TT - possibly also something like 23s or 43s, the again he could have 22 or 44 or he has the str8 - the only ones you beat...
I have to admit I would have to think long about calling that final bet. |

Villain shows A 5 and MHIG. Villain had been gunning for me pretty hard, and at the time it was an easy call.

Re: 77 vs. maniac
It's not an uncommon play to bet into pfr on low ragged flop so I suggest rr'ing that flop otherwise you pretty much have to go into slowplay mode and see how things go.
The size of the river bet makes the call easy imo esp. given the attitude you should've been in by not raising the flop and read on villain. |
