5-10 at the bike
i'm the big blind w/ ~2000 both opponents have me covered.
dealt 9-6 clubs. five limpers to me i check for a flop of 9s 5c 7c i lead out for 50 and the button and SB call. turn comes a red 6. SB leads for 100. whats your play? stop reading and think. ok so i smooth called figuring i had good odds for my flush or boat. river was the four of clubs. SB checked i checked and the button bet 500. he is a tricky but good player and i made a crying to see the nut flush. SB claimed she had only top pair, after she folded on the river. my thinking is if i raised the turn i get the bigger flush draw out and check behind if i don't improve on the river. however if i raise and get reraised i have to fold what could turn out to be the best hand... so what do you guys think of this hand....or am i just wasting everyones time? thanks. |

Re: 5-10 at the bike
I don't know why you wouldn't bet the river. I would bet and maybe fold to a big raise.
I think you are being a little bit results oriented with this hand. sure, you can fold a flush draw the times he has one, but a far worse concern is getting reraised, which I would say is highly probable here, unless you put SB on a stone bluff. --turnipmonster |

Re: 5-10 at the bike
why not push on the turn?
that way the bigger flush draws are forced to fold, all that can call you is a straight, which you dont seem to fear here, and even if you ran into that you have the boat and flush outs. all youre really worried about is a set, which is the same in any situation you arent holding the absolute nuts lol. i dont understand letting another flush get there along with you, seems weak passive to me, but perhaps the stage of the tourn/deepness of stacks predicates smooth calling? |

Re: 5-10 at the bike
you want to push!? the bet is 100, we have 1800 behind, and there is a 4 card straight on the board, and the SB just woke up and led out into two players. pushing is terrible.

Call and fold to a decent-sized bet on the river if you don't improve. I don't understand why you didn't bet the river.

Re: 5-10 at the bike
I'm not sure that check/calling the river is a bad play. If the button is a tricky but good player, he could hold a number of hands. He could have absolutely nothing and called the turn with the intention of bluffing on the river if it got checked to him. If Hero bets when the flush-card hits, his hand is pretty well diagramed and he probably won't get paid off by a straight, i.e. he will only get called by a bigger flush. I think it's more likely a tricky player will bet when a scary card hits on the river and two players check to him than he will pay off what the scare card implies.

Re: 5-10 at the bike
hey diablo,
i didn't bet the river because of the player behind me. after he smooth calls the flop and turn i have a hard time putting him on a hand other then a flush draw. i figured i was "value checking" the river. ie: if i bet i will most likely get all non-flush hands to fold, but if i check there is a chance the tricky player will try and represent the flush. the way it went down it cost me 500 to go to showdown. how much would you have bet the river? and then if raised you would have to fold, why not check call and lose the same amount when beat, while winning more when ahead? ps. i have played a few times at commerce and was wondering how often you play there, i have learned a lot reading your posts and was curious if we have played together. |

Re: 5-10 at the bike
you seem to be thinking about a tournament situation.. this is the cash game forum.
(of course in a tournament your plan is terrible for the same reasons, but turnip covered that) |
