Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
If a rock (15/5) raises from UTG and I'm holding AK in SB I just tend to throw it away.
I'm not going to get paid off if it hits, and I hate playing it out of position. |

I think it's pretty fair to say that it's something you should be laying down.

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
hey Ancient,
my vpip is pretty close to 18 although my pfr is much higher than 5. I raise many more hands than AA, KK, QQ, AK from UTG if its six max. If this is full ring, I think fold is fine. 6 max, I think call can be justified. |

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
personally, i think it's situation dependent. if the rock raises and everyone else drops out, i muck. if he gets a few callers i'd take a look at a flop but not go nuts if i hit.

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
I would think so, but since you KNOW he has AQ, AK, TT-AA, shouldn'y you at least see a flop? Anytime you have that much information, with AK no less, it should be +EV to call. I'll play anyone with anything if thier cards are face up on the table.
I might RERAISE to narrow his hand further and possibly fold him. I expect him to fold all but AA/KK/AK. If he calls or reraises, you know exactly where you stand, and its an easy fold if you dont flop a nut straight or flush. If I was pretty sure I was up against a premium pair, I would call, see a flop, and seek to bluff him off a scary board alot of the time. All of this is assuming the smaller of your two stacks have some depth. Otherwise I agree you should fold. Or push preflop. Whatever you are in the mood for. |

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
I think that is a great analysis. Big slick is a great hand, even if it is a drawing hand, and I would like to play it if possible. A PF reriase will tell you a very specific range of what this rock has.

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
I don't know if this is much different... last night, I'm in the SB with AKos. There's a few limpers, a MP raise and an immediate reraise and another person calls the reraise... Folds to me.... I fold.
I thought some of my outs have to be in their hands... and there's gotta be 1 or 2 decent pocket pairs in there. AND, I'm going to be out of position. No reason to call that, I assume. |

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
My belief is that if I call and bet into him on a K-high board, he will only call with hands that are equal or better than my hand (thus at best only winning the pre-flop raise or splitting).
If I check / call, he will either check behind on the turn with a worse hand. In the best case scenario I have AK vs AQ and outkick him. If I miss the flop completely then I have to fold if he bets the flop. |

Re: Is it bad to fold AK to a rock out of position?
Folding AKo to a raise and a re-raise is very player dependent.
Example: The raiser is pretty loose and likes to raise SC's The re-raiser knows the raiser and like to chase him out of their with holdings like AQ, KQ, or even AJ. Then it might be right to re-re-raise. It's also very stack dependent. In a 50xBB loose game I might be more inclined to get all my chips in PF. Whereas in a 200xBB game vs. tricky players I'm folding this without second thought. |

What if the rock knows you know he's a rock?
