Default damn those blinds

so, I recently played in a $30 buy-in tourney at the local casino in Sourthen California (morongo, if anyone's interested). The tourney structure is pretty hard to do battle with. Each player starts with 5000, and the blinds start at 25/50 and double every 15 minutes. The tournament maxes out at 100 players and by round 4 the blinds are already at 200/400. Everyone goes on break and we come back to 400/800 blinds and 15 minutes later, yup they're at 800/1600. How does one become sucessful in such a tournament where it becomes a crap shoot an hour into the thing? Playing tight certainly isn't an option. We're seeing about 10 hands every 15 minutes and I see many great players go down the tube to just plain bad luck...How can someone rise above this situation, with fast blinds and a low stack without busting out 2/3 of the time?

Help me out
