Re: Overpairs giving me trouble
Reads obviously would make this hand much easier to play. Against unknowns at this limit I would play it the same way. I'm guessing that the 9 on the turn either gave the guy a full boat or counterfeited his 2 pair giving you the winning hand.
That's a tough one, but I think you have to call it down. |

Re: Overpairs giving me trouble
Against unknown going to showdown is correct here.
Nice hand. |

He has J8 and MHIG [/ QUOTE ] Sweet. You played it perfect no matter what he had. Without reads, there's absolutely no way to know what he has at these limits. J8 seems just as likely as KK, 72, or 92. It takes at least a half dozen hands to have a remote clue of what kind of player he is. It seems somewhat common at micro limits to find a maniac join the table, bet/raise every street seemingly without even looking at their cards, then leave the table after just a few hands. One time, I thought I'd caught one such maniac with my JJ flopping a set, then making a boat when the turn paired tens on the board, capping the whole way only to see "mr. zero reads who just joined the table" made quads. Now I am very careful of such players. Based on your post title, I thought your guy must've had an overpair, which reminds me of the other night I had QQ beaten by KK in one hand and AA in a later hand, then had my KK beaten by AA. Those are the most ulcer-causing hands, especially the way the board went, there is no way I could have laid down my PP. Lost lots of chips on those hands. Those hands all played about the same as your hand above. Thing is, you'll be getting the best of it more often than not. |

Re: Results
J8? Did villain suffer a stroke shortly before this hand was played?
If the board didn't pair a playable card (ie, if the 3 paired instead of the 9) then I'm raising the turn and slowing down to a 3-bet. With two 9s on board, I call down. |
