Help me With Pot Odds.
if you're in a position to call $500 to win $800 (the guys all-in), you have 56 and assume your opponant holds 2 overs (ak aq aj)
Can somebody explain how to figure out if it's +EV? |

Re: Help me With Pot Odds.
$800 total or someone bets $500 (all-in) into an $800 pot, bring the entire pot to $1300?

Re: Help me With Pot Odds.
$300 is the BB. (I'm big blind) Button goes all-in for $800.
I'm only trying to get the formula for how to figure if it's correct to call if I assume 2 overs. |

The reason you have 80 views without an answer is because these people don't know. That is why they're here.

Re: Help me With Pot Odds.
Well, there is $1100 in the pot and you have to call $500. With 56 vs. AK, you have about a 40% chance to win.
So you use the formula: (amount you can win*chnance of winning)-(amount you can lose*chance of losing) (1100*.40)-(500*.60)= 140 If your answer is positive than it is +EV. |

Re: Help me With Pot Odds.
KJL is correct, but we can be a little more precise. Assuming the cards are from four different suits, there are 655,265 boards that win $1,100 for you, 1,050,561 that cost you $500 and 6,478 that tie for a net $300. So if you play all 1,712,304 possible boards, you win $197,454,400 for an average of $115 per hand.
Even better, if you're playing with a billionaire, say "let's take the gambling out of this game and replay this hand for every possible board." Don't try this with a poor guy. |

Re: Help me With Pot Odds.
A simpler way. You are calling $500 to win $1600 (his $800+ your $800) so you are geting more than 3 to 1 on your call. If your odds of winning the hand are greater than 33% then +EV.
