Default AK push

Have any of you ever done this. You get AK UTG1 and raise, with the intention of pushing. Flop misses, you push? I am questioning this play especially in this instance. It's late in the tourney, the money is about 9 places away.

How would you handle this situation?
How atrocious is the play?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t600 (8 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

BB (t2362)
Hero (t10263)
UTG+1 (t14589)
MP1 (t15769)
MP2 (t6812)
CO (t19442)
Button (t14012)
SB (t7225)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
Hero raises to t1900, UTG+1 calls t1900, 6 folds.

Hero bets t8313 (All-In), UTG+1 calls t8313.

Turn: (t20776) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Personally, I don't push this flop. I bet about 2800, then fold if he raises. You still have plenty of chips if he comes over the top, and doubt he would call/raise unless he has you beat, particularly given his stack. This, of course, would be read dependent, but generally how I would approach it.

Why the heck do you push here? Make a standard continuation bet and take it from there. You will still have a stack if the action dictates that you have to let it go. If he flat calls, you have a decision on the turn. This just screams of missed AK that has no clue what to do.

Put it this way. Would you bet 8k+ into this pot with AA/KK?

Preflop is fine. You have a lot of alternatives, a continuation bet, a pot-sized bet that pot commits you, or check. Everybody says continuation bet, but a larger bet has the same effect as a push, and has more chance of getting a fold. If villain has a pair, you still have 3-1 odds plus pot odds, so semibluffing is reasonable, but do it in a smoother way.

You don't have to bet every flop. If you check, you have many options as to how to play the hand. With this flop, there is a good chance villain has a pair or draw, so it is OK to proceed cautiously.

I would throw a continuation bet out there. Looks like he sucked out with KQ or AQ.

Yeah right when I pushed I wondered why I didn't just do a CB. Anyway, results in white:

Villain could call with 88-TT here. Heros bet tells him he doesn't have the Q or an overpair. A bet of 2600 or something looks much more like AQ, QQ+ than this push. And if you are reraised all in then you can safely fold most of the time.
