Default Preflop Concept Question

This table is somewhat loose, 4-5 to the flop is not unusual.

You're dealt ATo, on the button.

An EP player limps, 2 MP players limp, the CO limps.

What do you do (fold, limp, or raise)?
Please explain your reasoning.

I raise for value. Also we have position so there is a chance your raise will give us a free card.

How raise-happy are the blinds?

As long as the blinds aren't likely to raise, I'll call this with that many players. I don't raise as I don't want to bloat the pot and I don't believe raising will limit the field.

I call. Our hand does not have a huge equity edge. I also really want to be bet into on a ten high flop.

Assume blinds are not raise-happy, but things do happen on occasion.

What's your estimate of the preflop equity of ATo?

Give me a hypothetical flop that you're going to check through with ATo after you raise preflop, that wouldn't have been checked to you without a PFR? With likely 5, possibly 6, players acting ahead of you?

Same answer. Call, don't bloat the pot. Flop AAT, win money.

My answer is call as well (although a few weeks ago I probably would have said raise).

SSH advocates raising in this position if I recall correctly, but with this many limpers, in a hand that is not that good multiway, I see no reason to bloat the pot preflop. Bloating it only gives better odds for draws.

Does AJo become a raise? AQo would in my book.

Call. Our hand is unlikely to win against this many players unimproved. We don't need to buy the button. Pass up the small preflop edge and exploit a large flop edge or fold UI if bet into in general.
