danny negreanu\'s heart beat rate under pressure situations
i was watching poker on TV on fox sports net, where danny negreanu made the final table. it was amazing to watch that under the most stressful situations, he was just about as calm as when he is relaxed.
his heart beat rate when he's relaxed is 74, the only time he was uncomfortable was when he was all-in. even then though, it was only about 100. phil gordon's heart beat rate under pressure situations was 160. i wish i could learn to be as calm at the table as danny boy is |

Re: danny negreanu\'s heart beat rate under pressure situations
I read an article by Daniel a few months ago in which he said something along the lines of not really being excited about most tournament play unless the buy-in was excessively high. Given that he won 4.5 million in tournies last year alone, I could see him remaining rather calm given that the money doesn't really mean all that much to him.
Of couse he could just have nerves of steel, but I think his financial comfort zone might have something to do with it. |

Re: danny negreanu\'s heart beat rate under pressure situations
Annie Duke commented that Gordon needed to do some cardio. I know very little about anatomy but his higher heart rate could have been because he was nervous or because of an unhealthy lifestyle. He may have been drinking a lot of coffee, too. They had been playing since morning. Also, Daniel has been on television a lot more than Gordon, so he has that going for him.

Re: danny negreanu\'s heart beat rate under pressure situations
I know this sounds simplistic but I'll bet a disciplined deep breathing routine would help a lot of people accomplish this.
I'm working on it but the two packs of Camels a day is holding me back. Thank God for Corona! Then, again, I guess 4-tabling $2 $4 isn't quite the same thing... |

I think Gordon has a boatload of money compared to Daniel if that makes a difference. I think I know why Dainel's heart rate is well controlled but you can draw your own conclusions.

it was amazing to watch that under the most stressful situations, he was just about as calm as when he is relaxed. [/ QUOTE ] It was not a stressful situation. The point when they showed his heart rate he was acting. He knew he had to fold his hand. He was acting so the other players would think he was making a big laydown so they don't bully him off hands in the future. Later in the game his heart rate went up when he was not sure of his strength during the play of the hand. He lost that hand if I remember correctly. So his heart rate only goes up when he has a decision to make when the choice is clear he has no reason to stress. |
