Canterbury 30/60 (8 handed) last night. Not my typical game, but 3 of us were decent and the rest were bad, so it looked good. Button is a VERY good 2+2 player. We have not played much together, but he knows who I am. What he thinks of my play is unknown.
I am in BB with 88. 2 fish fold. a bad player open-limps, good player folds, bad player folds, Button raises, SB folds, I 3-bet, bad player calls, button calls. Flop 3 ways: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I bet, limper raises, button cold-calls, I 3-bet, limper calls, button calls. Turn: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I bet, limper calls, button raises, I 3bet, limper calls, button makes it 4bets (5 is the cap), I call, limper calls. river: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] i check, limper bets, button calls, i fold. meh? |

I like everything except the river fold. Are you 95% sure you're beat?
And folding in 20BB+ pots on the river for 1 bet just make me sick. I'd just shrug and call. Edit: cap the turn? |

I would fold this nasty river as well.
Any thought that my 8's were any good still after the fishy's cap was destroyed by the last river card you wanted to see. Fold, but most def. not an easy one. What'd he show? A3? EDIT: It's these types of plays that distinguish the best. |

My mistake.
Cap at Canterbury is 5-bets, not 4. |

As sure as you were that you were beat, it's probably still more profitable to check/raise and try to get a straight to lay down (and/or maybe get a crying call from a set of fives), than it is to fold here.
