it's probably the most common hand i go out on... but i dont know if that necesarily means overplayed.. it gets you involved in a lot of coinflips, which isn't necesarily a bad thing.

ya I guess so.. Depending on the tournament status, I'll play it in a number of different ways.. Depending on my mood and how many chips I have left in relation to the big stacks, I might call an all-in knowing it'll be a coinflip.. However, if I feel comfortable with my position at the table and in the tournament, I might fold and not try to win/lose everything on one hand

Would you mind explaining your purpose with posting this question?

"Overplayed" meaning ... ? Preflop, on the flop or later? And at what levels?

Or are you just venting a "bad" beat?

Just to contribute something positive:

No, I don't think AK is "overplayed".

I agree certain hands (AJ, KQ, KJ etc.) are more of a challenge for inexperienced players postflop.

I don't think AK as one of those.

AK is pretty clean cut.

You're going to flop TPTK 1/3 of the time. It's hard to put low-limit players on 2P or high card sets, so generally I don't.

If I have a read that a player will try to bet me off AK on a low flop, I might CR. Frequently I find myself up against worse Aces.

You're going to bust out a substantial part of the time with AK.

Why? Because this hand has potential enough to commit a large part of your chips not only PF but on a wide range of flops.

Except for early on the blinds in an online tourney will typically be such a big part of your stack, that you can't afford not to play AK strongly. And you will bust with it a lot, but typically you will be the favorite.

Best,

McMelchior (Johan)

PS: If it has any interest the most over-played hand IMHO is the 4-flush, especially on the turn. Man! It's incredible how many times I've seen players happily push their (far-from-nut) 4-flush on the turn with scant FE and poor pot-odds. Not to talk about calling off their stack with it. Now that's what I call a riot! /McM

No, not venting a bad beat. I rarely take bad beats with AKo. It is more just a point of curiosity with me. I see a lot of players playing AKo as a world beater hand, and then complain when they lose with it.

I agree with your point the people tend to stick with 4-straights and 4-flushes a lot too.

Nope. Ax is. KQ/KJ are up there, too.
