I bet/raise every street where I'm ahead, and check/call it down when i'm behind, even if I know I have the worest hand of everybody. Probably my biggest leak. Trips probably cost me more money than any other hand.

Its not the worst thing in the world that you did not raise 5th, but once you pair the 6s on 6th street I would have bet out. Hopefully then he thinks you just have 2 pair He will likely call you with a pair of Ks trying to improve to 2 pair, and probably will pay you off on the river whether or not he imroves just in case all you have is the 6s.

5th is fine, but never check 6th here. There is no way he is going to call a check raise when you have an open pair so just bet it yourself and lead 7th.
