Default novel bad beat (no content, o/t)

i was playing in a step tourney last night (that's the o/t part) with three left, top 2 get the good seat. all stacks are very close to each other. other two guys get all-in preflop with 88 against 99.

How do you chop in an online tourney? There's no chop button. Wouldn't the best hand be awarded the pot automatically?

Nothing special about that IMO. I saw worse. I saw a friend with KK go all-in after a flop of 8-8-K. Another guy followed, holding an A-K. My friend lost after the turn came 8 and the river...8!

I'm not sure he was saying that it was the most improbable beat ever, just that the mechanism was bizarre, which it was. After they both went all-in, his equity in the tournament went way up. The only way for him to lose this equity was if there was a split. The split with two middle pocket pairs is pretty bizarre; it's more probable than perfect-perfect, but it's just strange.
