Books I should get
What are some books I should get? The only book I own is "Winner's Guide To Texas Hold'em Poker" by Ken Warren. I have also read Super System.
So, what books should I get: Super System 2 the new Harrington book Small Stakes Hold 'Em???? SS2 and Harrington for sure, what about SSH? What other books? |

Re: Books I should get
Question:
How many hands have you played? Do you have PokerTracker? What is your Winrate? What is your VPIP? Where are you on the learning curve. |

Re: Books I should get
Then you my friend are probably in for a massive need a help.
The first two books you listed are not out yet, do not worry about those. I'd go with Theory of Poker, SSH, HFAP, Middle Limit Holdem, Caro's Book of Tells, Improve your Poker, and there are others, I am just in a hurry, gotta go pick up the girlfriend. |

Avoid Ken Warren. As to which of those books you should buy, I think it depends on how much you know about the game already. I suppose that you have a decent foundation to build on, if you have read Super System. Go ahead and purchase SSHE. You won't regret it. TOP and TPFAP(if you play tournamants) are also good suggestions. Read as much as you can. The effort will pay off. [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] |

Re: Books I should get
nobody asked if he plays limit or no limit.
in any case, your book game is seriously lacking. if you play limit please check out the clarkmeister 5, and check out the rest of the thread. Depending on how long you have played "on your own" you may not benefit much from WLLH, but I don't think it will hurt. cheers, bonanz |

Re: Books I should get
I play both Limit and NL(Limit more often though)....I've been playing for about a year, but only got serious about learning in the last 3 months or so.
And no, I don't have PokerTracker(but I DO plan on purchasing it sometime in the next few months.) |

Re: Books I should get
First know which books you're buying for which (NL vs. Fixed). Most people here will suggest you start with TOP for either.
For NL my suggestions would be: 1. (For a beginner) McEvoy/Daugherty's New Player NL Texas Hold Em. (I'll probably get flamed for this one but I think it's a good starting point). 2. Ciaffone's Pot Limit & No Limit Poker. 3. Any of the new NLHE books coming out soon from Harrington, Ciaffone, Raymer or the new Super System 2 (which supposedly will also have a very good limit section). I play pretty much only NL, but for limit I like: 1. HEPFAP. 2. A lot of people also seem to like SSHE and ITH. When I started playing I had trouble moving back & forth (and still do) between limit and no-limit. Some people find this easier than others. But you might stick with one or the other (probably limit) initially. |

Re: Books I should get
David,
I wouldn't buy a book, or at least I wouldn't buy only a book. WIthout PT you dont have any information about what you are trying to fix. Buy PT first. If you can, buy 1 book (not more) also. If you feel you are a winning player, don't buy any books and post your winrate after 1000 hands in PT, you might be suprised. If it turns out you are still in the red, buy a beginning book. I like ITH, but there are a few good ones. If your stats show you are pretty sophisticated already, go to SSH. |
