Default $55 - JJ level 1 in MP

I raise here every time, but I have a friend that is trying to tell me this is a mistake with 2 limpers in front.

Calling lets them see a flop with total garbage. Why not raise to isolate?

Definitely raise if you think you can correctly play post flop with 1 non-ace over.

You have position. Raise for value.

You gotta raise here. You already explained why--better to raise than call and watch someone with KX or QX land their pair.

Raising is stupid, you will inevitably get called, and there is no reason to play a big pot too early with a hand as difficult to play as jacks. Furthermore, the fact that your friend was 8 tabling when he played it makes it an even easier limp.

I think this is an easy call. I have started limping with JJ up until level 3 or 4 and it has been much more profitable. Too hard to play jacks post flop when an overcard hits. I play em for trips value and try and accumulate a lot of chips when I hit a jack on the flop. When you raise you are only isolating hands that will often times beat you when an overcard hits and the pot wont be big enough to justify making a borderline decision when the overcard does hit.

People here always seem to treat jacks as if they were total garbage. They are probablty the single most contentious starting hand in Hold 'em.... I think they are easy to play, as long as you don't get married to them. Easier than queens, in some ways, because they are easier to drop.

I was going to mention that, actually, because it was part of the foundation of my argument to him.

My argument was that because I single table, this is a definite raise for me: "keep in mind that i am playing 1 table at a time, so i think it's different."

And so on...

Don't forget that you are also eliminating the crap hands that will invariably stack you when the flop comes 347.

If you have some post-flop skills, definitely raise. If your postflop play sucks, I guess you can limp and try for a set, but I can't imagine that is +ev over raising.

Agreed. JJ is one of my most profitable hands at lvl 1-3, and I almost never limp them. Even if you just play them when they are an overcard I think its more profitable to raise.
