I really don't like checking this flop. I'd just as soon 3-bet the turn because I think you're more likely to get more bets on the turn+river if he has anything and you 3-bet now, and if he's semibluffing you get your bets in now rather than hoping he hits on the river to give you multiple bets too. So I don't like the flop and I really don't like the turn, and of course the river is a raise.

![]() The title of this post is awfully contradictory, considering how you played it, Bet the flop, raise the turn, raise the river. |

I made mention that I like a flop bet. Still a bit partial to that thought.
Turn, I like the call. Points are valid of the 3bet...but unless u think hes capping the turn, most of the time there is almost always a follow through bet. He has 3 things here. A semibluff, pure bluff or a Q. Against a queen u get the same amount of bets...a UI semi bluff u almost always get the same amount of bets. A pure bluff would probably fold to the turn 3 bet, but follow through on the river. The only time u get more is if he improves. I dont mind either one but I really like calling the turn more so than 3betting. |

I guess if there were ever a time to slowplay this is it. I still can't help wondering if simply betting the flop is more +EV though, because you can't count on your opponents improving to hands that they'll bet/raise themselves.
I also wonder what the SB is doing when he checks twice with the danger of the turn getting checked through. This hand leaves me confused. |

Going into the flop action, we can't expect the 53/14 limper and the SB who completed for 1/3 of a small bet to have much.
So I'm surprised you ended up getting all the action that you did. |

The turn play is horrible.

Flop check is fine. Bet sometimes, check sometimes.
I think it's a fairly easy turn 3-bet. By waiting until the river, you gain one extra bet from bluffs and that is the only advantage. If for some rare reason, he decides to not follow through on a semi-bluff, that's one bet less. You gain the same amount - or maybe even more if he hits on the river and cr's. From medium hands, such as a Q or a PP, you gain the same amount. From strong hands, and this is where the big difference is, you gain MUCH more by 3-betting the turn. |

I'm not a noob I agree with most of the above post. Most of the time I bet this flop, mostly because at the very low limits I play, the standard is to check and SUPASLOPLAY till the river, so I do the exact opposite and trick those fishies. In your situation, I would do about 50/50 check or bet, and unless I feel my opponent is bluffing/semi-bluffing, I will three bet that turn nearly every time.
P.S. Does my writing style include the usage of too many commas? |
