Re: is this a horrible play?
With no read you played this hand fine.
Once you get it heads up you should be careful about spewing chips. There is nothing 'tight' about that. |

Re: is this a horrible play?
I probably 3 bet the turn and call down from there. I'd expect to see a pocket pair like 8s or 9s here a lot more often than a J.

Re: is this a horrible play?
Against a typical player you should go bigger than this. I might raise this flop with quads (and I might be the only one who would), but a typical player would almost always slowplay until the turn or river. Tip your cap if he can make this play.

Re: is this a horrible play?
Yes, horrible play. You should quit poker.
No I'm just kidding. Grunching this...I like the 3-bet. He never re-raised you preflop. I cap this the whole way and don't slow down. Make him show you KK, AA, or Jx, the only 3 hands that beat you. You really shouldn't be scared of 4 of a kind when holding a pair. The rare times you do lose to four of a kind won't nearly add up to how much you win when you have a great pair like this. After reading the post...am I playing this too aggressive? |

Re: is this a horrible play?
One of my pet-peeves is people confusing "tight" with "passive". There's nothing "tight" about calling down with the probable best hand. Tight refers to the percentage of hands you play given the situations. Passivity refers to your aggression level.
If he had KK or AA, he probably would have re-raised PF. If he had quad Js, he probably wouldn't cap on the flop. I'd say you're more than 90% likely to have the best hand here. If he caps the turn THEN bet-call the river would be okay. |

Re: is this a horrible play?
I agree, a cap on the turn may be bad. I think I still bet the river(he may check with no reads). Can anyone provide odds on flopping 4 of a kind vs. someone having a pocket pair?
