Default My Credit Score

I am looking for a new car this weekend and found out my credit score is 636. I know it really should be over 700, but is 636 considered a low score?

636 is pretty low. you should be able to get a car with it though. any score over 670 is considered pretty good. 720 and up is excellent

Go get a credit card. Any card. When it comes to buying cars, etc., bad credit is better than no credit.

And yeah, 636 is a bit on the low side. If you have a high balance on your credit card, try and pay that down. Even paying a quarter of it down can do a ton to your FICO score. As far as buying a car is concerned, I constantly sold cars to people with scores <600. You shouldn't have a problem, especially if you're willing to put money down.

Hmmm. I was able to get a credit card from Wells Fargo with a $1000 limit with no credit. I'm sure you can find something.

To the OP: Your credit score is most likely not going to be low enough for "special finance" programs at a dealership. If they send you to go talk to one of those guys, run. Your interest rate will be astronomical.

Get a secured visa through your bank or a card from a department store (target for example. they have no standards). Charge it up and then pay over the minimum payment each month for 6 months and then watch the credit card offers come flying in.
