So I decide to drown my hand in bets
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (5 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 2 folds, Button raises, 1 fold, Hero 3-bets, Button calls. Flop: (6.50 SB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, Button raises, Hero 3-bets, Button calls. Turn: (6.25 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets... Villain was weak-tight, one of the lowest VP$IP TPPs that you see. VP$IP of 10, pfr of 4, PFA of 1 or so. I've occasionally employed this, but I don't know if it works enough to justify the cost of all that money. |

Re: So I decide to drown my hand in bets
You have lots of outs and equity, but since you describe villain as very tight and passive I can only see the flop raise as meaning you are behind. Since the pot is headsup I prefer to call the flop and stop and go any helpful card. If you think villain has chosen this time to donk around because it's shorthanded, or if you think villain will fold a weak better hand (pocket pair TT or less, AJ) I still prefer a stop and go. The 3-bet just seems excessive.

Re: So I decide to drown my hand in bets
I don't think we have nearly the fold equity with a stop and go as we do a flop 3-bet. If he caps, then I'm sure I'm behind. And even if we're behind, I've still got good fold equity. I rarely use a stop and go except in cases I want to 3-bet or I'm very sure he's on a draw.

I don't much like your 3-bet on the flop, but I like your turn lead.

Re: So I decide to drown my hand in bets
[ QUOTE ]
What percentage of the time the opponents folds.. [/ QUOTE ] I believe the technical definition also involves pot size. For example, an opponent (in a HU situation) who will fold 20% of the time is offering us different "folding equities" for our bet in a 10 BB pot and a 3BB pot. In the former, we win 0.2 * 10BB = 2BB just by betting. Thus, betting, even if we never win when called, is +EV. But, in the latter, we only automatically win 0.2 * 3BB = 0.6BB by betting. This means that the remainder of the bet has to me made up for by the times we win when called. |
