20-40. Great Blue Heron, Port Perry. I am the only player under 20, the rest of the field being 40-60.. So I am viewed as a tight, straightforward, idiot college player.
Here is the hand. Hero in BB with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6 limpers, SB completes, I knock. Flop (8sb) 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] SB checks, mp+2 bets (absolute idiot), cutoff raises (tight, agressive), I think, and cold call. Initial bettor calls. Turn (7BB) Turn brings a 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ............. 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I check, initial Mp+2 checks, cutoff bets, I check raise, Mp+2 folds, Cutoff calls. River (11BB) River brings an 8.. I bet out.. cutoff folds. I win uncontested. 2 questions.... How terrible was my cold call on the flop, and secondly, was the check raise on the turn the best option given the board, and my position.. Thanks! |

Hi SP,
I think you played this a bit oddly. I feel betting the flop would be the best play. If you get raised, it would be even sweeter because then you can 3-bet. It's a rainbow board, you have 8 outs to a straight (though 9 is Baaad) and another 2 for trips. Don't be shy. Being that you got to the turn that way, this is another bet out situation. You can't let this get checked around. Were you that positive that CO would bet? Rope the fools in. |

I played the flop oddly, partly because I wasn't really paying attention at the time, and when the action got to me, I didn't really have time to evaluate my situation in the hand, and who I was up against. I cold called with the intention of going nuts on the turn.

3-betting this flop sucks.

I'd never bet this flop into 6 limpers behind me. This is a flop almost guaranteed to be raised. With a draw to the "idiot" end of the straight and middle pair with no kicker, I'm gonna wait and see what happens.

I would have folded, rather than called two cold. I have bad position, a draw to a straight where a 9 might cost me a ton of money, and no make me much since the board will be scary, and only second pair with no kicker against a solid player.
As it were, I like your check-raise on the turn; a bet is most likely to come from the flop raiser, since the turn was not an overcard, and you can now charge the 3rd guy to try to outdraw you on this draw-rich board. |

after coldcalling (betting the flop is better) i'm betting this turn 100%
