Re: Must Have Books for Intermediate \\ Advanced Players
Theory of Poker, Sklanksy
Pot and No Limit Holdem (close on the title), Ciaffone Super System NL section Books aren't as much help in NL for me as Limit. You have to develop your own style and there is no sigle 'by the book' correct way to play. |

Everyone should have a copy of harrington too. Its a bit ABC but good step on the ladder.

Re: Must Have Books for Intermediate \\ Advanced Players
Cloutier's & McEvoy's Championship No Limit and Pot Limit Hold 'Em is another pretty good book. He talks about a bit of a tighter game than I prefer, but he makes many very good points.

Re: Must Have Books for Intermediate \\ Advanced Players
Tao of Poker.
Addresses player development (a fair portion of it is beginner type stuff) and is well worth the 10 bucks or so they charge for it. |

Re: Must Have Books for Intermediate \\ Advanced Players
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I won a lot of money reading it in a live 6-12 limit game.
Oh, no limit? Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn. I won a lot of money playing online while reading it. Real answer: none. Just read Harrington's book. I learned nothing, but it's the best book out there. At least he gets to some basic situations. But be very careful about your bet sizes. If you ABC in ring games like Harrington implies (and he does give the caveats and is writing about tournaments, so the point is just make sure you're aware of your betting tells) you will get eaten alive. Better to bet 2/3 pot always if you must choose a default, until you get comfortable tossing other bet sizes around. Matt |

Wich books in your opinion REALLY helped your game ? NL ring only. [/ QUOTE ] I don't claim to have read even close to everything that's out there, but . . . I think that Theory of Poker is probably the most practically useful book for an intermediate/better player. Doyle's section is Super System gets you thinking conceptually the right way for deep stacks, I think, but it's definitely outdated. Harrington is good but very ABC. Honestly, I know it's not the answer you wanna hear, but nothing that's out there right now, in terms of NL ring games, even comes close to the stuff on this forum. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you read through the archives; there's some absolute gold in both the older archives and the recent archives (link on top of older archives index page). |
