I'd raise 3rd, raise the single bet on fourth and take it from there (if the 88 hand now reraises the double bet, I know I'm in trouble). Small trips, with a couple of players already in = pound it early and often.

I would at least consider completing on third street.
On fourth street, I might raise, I might call. How loose is the guy with the Eights, i.e., how likely is it that he has something other than trip Eights? On fifth street, I think I might just check and call. Or I might check-raise. Or I just might bet into the guy and see what happens. I don't think that it matters a whole lot how you play this hand, but it would have to get pretty damned scary before I folded. Try to catch the case Trey on sixth street.
