Alright how does the tipping work when you win a tournament or come in second or whatever?
How much should you tip? Is it ethical for a floor person to demand a tip from you for the dealers also stating the dollar amount? Why don't they just increase the entry fee? How do you guys feel about this? Thoughts? |

It's funny that you mention this. I was just talking with a friend of mine yesterday about this. We were on our way to a local tourney($20 + 0 buy-in/ 40 players max). I won this daily tourney last week. 2nd place(right when I turned over my winning hand) asked me how much I wanted to tip. I had just won $400, and wasn't sure, and said, "I dunno, $20?"
Someone else inturrupted in a," what an amateaur" kind of way, "Isn't it 10%?" Of course I looked around, by their expression, everyone seemed to agree. After asking other players, it seems like that is pretty much standard everywhere. plus, 10% for 1st isn't too big a dent for you to mind. Afterall, you just won, and you're pretty psyched! |

I'm sure Fossilman gave at least a $500,000 tip.

In this Cardplayer article Andy Glazer says:
"... what most experienced tournament players know, that 3 percent is considered customary, 3.5 percent is just fine, and anything in the 4 percent or higher range is quite nice. Lots of times when I win, my brain is so fried that I ask for a calculator so I'll know what 3 percent is, and then I usually round it up a bit" Here is a link to the full article: http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_maga...php?a_id=13924 Hope this helps. |

I usually give around 5-10 Percent depending on where I finish.
At the Orleans in Vegas, the floor personel never ask for a tip, they have an envelope on the table, and if you want to tip, but from my experience, I've never seen them outright ask for a tip. |

That is great they do that.
Sycuan badgers you for the tip. Last time after paying each person they actually waited for the tip before paying the next person. When it came my turn, I told them I am figuring it out, go onto the next person. Makes me want to play there less. Then they took over 30 minutes to fill out the 1099's and when I asked to be next he asked me if I tipped. |

I do about 3-4% also. I just don't see giving $50 on a $1,000 win.
Between the house take, the tip and possible taxes, it gets hard to show a profit pretty quickly. |
