Default Scrub\'s new tipping system

I only started playing in games big enough to collect time instead of rake recently.

The experience has made me realize how much of a bite the casino takes out of me every hour. It has also made me much more sensitive to dealer mistakes, since I "payed" for the hands that don't get dealt when the dealer misdeals or gets into an argument with a player about something stupid.

While running cold a few days ago, I found myself tipping dealers who had done a crappy job because they had dealt me a winner, but stiffing dealers who had dealt a lot of hands because I hadn't dragged a pot. I also realized that, between drink waitresses and dealers, tipping can take a pretty big bite out of your earn.

I understand that dealers rely on tips as part of their income, and that we would just have to play higher rakes or time charges if there were no tipping.

I'm seriously considering moving to a tipping system where I tip a fixed amount at the beginning of each dealer's down and just treat tipping as part of my time charge. Either that, or tipping a smaller fixed amount at the beginning of each down, and tipping the same amount again at the end of the down if there was no misdeal or excessive delay.

I figure $1/down, either split up or all at once, is about the maximum that it makes sense to be tipping at 10/20. It's 10% of what I can figure to make unless the game is exceptionally good. More than that seems excessive. Will tipping this way, particularly breaking the tip into halves, piss dealers off enough that I end up getting worse treatment during close floor decisions? Has anyone else experimented with some sort of "performance based" tip?

I'll have to say that I've thought about tipping at the end of the down myself... however, I stopped because I would often times forget. New dealer comes to push, I use the time to relax for that time.. take a drink, stretch, dash to the bathroom.

Scrub,

Excellent post.

If I have not taken down a pot during a good dealers shift, I will tip the dealer when they live anyway.

When I play at the Borgata I always tip certain dealers. I always tip Anthony, Daniel, and a few others regardless of whether I win or not for their time in the box. They control the game well and hardly make mistakes.

This talk of Borgata dealers reminds me of the Hottie on the calender. She's never dealt for me considering i play 2 4 but she must make a killing.

--I don't know that what limit you play has anything to do with what dealers rotate through your table. All the dealers seem to rotate through all of the games, or at least the games that aren't in the high-limit room.

--I haven't seen the calendar. My favorite female dealer is the asian woman with the amazingly good pitch. She's like a machine when she deals and controls the game pretty well too. My favorite male dealer is that southern guy Jerry who deals the overnight shift, because I once sat like a 12 hour session with him at the Taj, and he's a great guy.

--I might go down there this weekend, and go to the Borgata to avoid all the "real" players at ATLARGE. I'll try the tipping thing out and let you guys know how it goes...

I haven't been to an ATLARGE event, but one of our posters here was down at the Trop for one last year, or the year before and was shocked by the poor play of an entire table of them. I don't think you'll be in trouble at the Taj.

I think you missed Scrubs attempt at sarcasm. Most of the ATLARGE players do not play well at all.

Can someone fill me in on what an "ATLARGE" event is?
Thanks.
