Default dealer tipping: that they share the tips is dumb

At the local B&M they share the tips (which is pretty customary, right?). This fact makes me really want to tip less...because there are a few really bad dealers and they're getting a cut of the money that I really want in the pockets of the really good dealers...it's just really frustrating. I think I know why they do this...so there isn't any collusion of any kind between player and dealer, but cmon now...I wanna tip the guy who's treating me well. I don't give a [censored] if he gave me a winning hand or not, if he's an enjoyable dealer I'd like to give him a couple bucks, regardless of if I win or not, and not feel 'oblgated' to tip the dumbasses when I win a hand.

Anyone else feel the same way I do?

I'm neither a dealer, nor a B&M player, but I'm going to say I agree. I've worked at several jobs with a tipshare, and it always irks the hell out of me when the crap employees get just as much money as the exemplary employees.

If there's $240 in the tip pool at my old job it usually means one or two good employees made a boatload of tips, and the rest of them have MAYBE thrown 10 apiece in there. So what should be a $100 night for two good people suddenly becomes a $40 night (two good employees and four bad employees. Bad make $10 apiece, good make $100 apiece, split six ways). It's a bull**** system that rewards poor work.

Does the waitress with the tight bottom and bouncy rack really deserve more? In my opinion, YES! But fat ugly has to feed her kids too.

If we dont tip the fat and ugly waitresses, soon there wont be any fat and ugly waitresses, hence the problem is solved
Personally, I believe the tipping at poker tables is seriously out of hand anyway. I tip a buck an hour, period! Since when do these people deserve what I see as "massive" tips, when joe bloe working at mcdonalds is getting minimum wage and no tips at all! The other week I sat at a table in one of the Indian casinos in Phoenix and watched $40 go to the dealer(s) in ONE HOUR. Dont perpetuate the stupidity! This doesnt mean that I dont think dealers have the right to make a good living, mind you. Anyway, thats my two cents worth...

I run a nightclub and I can tell you this – the only way that there is pooling (sharing) of tips is through some sort of collective bargaining agreement (union). My better bartenders would quit before they would pool tips, and I’m sure that a lot of the better dealers feel the same way, they just don’t have any choice.

Tipping in general is out of control. IMHO. To me tipping is for extraordinary service above and beyond; not because the kid at the counter happened to get my order right.

Ive been to McDonalds where the cashier couldn't even make change right. These are not the people you want dealing to you. If you don't tip well at a casino the quality of dealers will decline alot. I agree there are bad dealers out there, but the good ones deserve your tips. They work hard, put up with tons of crap from the customers, and most that have been doing it a long time have back problems.

Furthermore, if you don't tip casinos will replace their cardrooms with more profitable games, because they can't pay the dealers very much. Poker rooms make very little dollars/square foot compared to anything else a casino could put in the space. Be grateful that we do tip so you still have a place to play.

I hate being EXPECTED to do something as much as the next guy, but I understand the consequences of NOT doing it also. If everyone had your attitude card rooms would get replaced by mindless table games or slot machines. Or we would get dealers that don't know to chop a pot, burn and turn too early, push the pots to the wrong people, get confused with all-in bets, etc.

It is my impression that most rooms do not share the tips.

At the local place they do share, even with the other table game dealers and I do not tip. I also informed the manager about my policy but they are not too empowered either.

mohegan sun dealers used to keep their own tips,.. while foxwoods dealers split. naturally the mohegan dealers were better.
