Casino Rules
For those of you like myself who play most games online and are not as familiar with casino rules I figured I would post this rule.
I am playing 10-20 at foxwoods and I turnover the queen of clubs to my opponents two pair for the winning flush on the river. My opponent and the rest of the table except the dealer sees my cards(the dealer later claimed he missed seeing my flush). The dealer then proceeds to slide the winning chips (which I did not see)to my opponent and starts mucking the cards. Hes about to take mycards when the guy to myright who was out of the hand tells me to grab mycards. I grab mycards andthe dealer recognizes the mistake and gives me the winning chips. I was then told that even though my opponent and everyone else saw my winning hand if the dealer took my cards I would have lost the hand. Altough this seems rare (and obvious) I was told this happens more than people think. You must hold on to your cards until the hand results are completely settled with the dealer because dealers do make mistakes and if your hand gets mucked its over and you lose even if the opponent has seen your winning hand. |

Re: Casino Rules
Hi rivaridge,
Thank you for posting that. While the dealers do a wonderful job 99.9% of the time, that one-in-a-thousand mistake can be very troubling. If you know how to handle such a situation ahead of time, you'll be less frustrated, less apt to suspect cheating or malice, and more likely to have a positive experience. Cris |

Re: Casino Rules
yes, and i say it over and over. when you have the winner never let go of your cards. the dealer does not need to grab them for any reason except incompetency. only after all other hands are gone and you have the pot send them in.
the floorman if qualified to do the job will always see that the best shown hand wins the money. in your case he would award you the pot. but many places have bad rules and bad decisions. knowing that, you hold your cards. |

Re: Casino Rules
YOu have to protect your hand. Don't let go of the winning hand until you have the chips.

Re: Casino Rules
On a side note, I've seen players lose out on pots because they either didn't realize that there was an all-in player or that there was another player that was still in the pot. They thought everyone else had folded, so they mucked their cards only to be in shock when the dealer handed someone else the chips.
Luckly I've learned not to give up my hand until the dealer pushes the pot to me. It's lucky that I've learned this without making that mistake myself. [ QUOTE ] YOu have to protect your hand. Don't let go of the winning hand until you have the chips. [/ QUOTE ] |
