Default Am I a creep?

I played today in the $5/$10 at the luxurious Menominee Casino where I ran into this situation.

First, a little background on this place. If the Bellagio is the Pebble Beach of poker, then this place is your local muni course. The greens have a few holes in them, basically every player there is terrible, you can't spend a ton of money there even if you tried, profanity is abundant, collared shirts are non-existant....but playing there sure beats not playing at all. This casino opened their 3-table room about a month or two ago, and without another poker room within 200 miles of the place, it is fairly evident that they are flying by the seat of their pants. Some abnormalities I witnessed:

1. When starting a new table, they don't deal for the button. The player to the right of the dealer automatically gets the button (making that seat desireable to the player with any knowledge whatsoever).
2. Players first sitting down do not have to post.
3. Cards that fall off the table can be put back into play without calling the floor.

Please keep in mind my situation occurred within this context.

In my second orbit at the table, I fold UTG and get up to use the can. I come back as the button passes me and I get involved with a conversation with the guy to my right. After I folded my garbage, I realized I didn't post my blinds. I wonder to myself if this is another one of those quirky, player-friendly rules (although the dealer did appear clueless). I decide not say anything. A couple hands later, I notice another gentleman get up after folding (although he left after folding at UTG+1). He came back about six hands later when he was in MP, and the dealer (same dealer as before) did not make him post either (this gentleman was new to poker and I highly doubt he was doing this on purpose). I again decide not to say anything. Moments later, a new dealer comes in, then another guy leaves and lets the blinds pass him, but this dealer throws out a "missed blind" button and makes him post big+small when he returns. These transpirings occurred with no comments from the other players (every player except myself was basically a daisy-fresh rookie to poker, and I highly doubt any of them knew any better). The other three dealers working today also enforced this rule. However, when the first dealer came back to the table, I witnessed another player who passed the blinds not have to post when he returned. This dealer clearly did not have a firm grasp on this nuance of poker.

I purposely skipped my blinds without posting afterwards in three out of six opportunities when that dealer was at my table.

Is this the house's own damn fault for allowing incompetence, or am I an a-hole who took advantage of a table full of clueless players and an even more clueless dealer? My guess is it is a bit of both, but I'm hoping the moral fiber of 2+2 as a whole isn't so strong that I won't gain any sympathy for the path I chose to take, and that at least some would do the same thing in my shoes.

If you plan to play there much in the future, I wouldn't do this.

... let's not mince words ... he is an angle-shooting, lowlife creep .... Now, go forth and sin no more, my son.

Doing that is cheating. I've played with you and you don't need to cheat in order to beat a low-limit game.

You were only a cheat not a creep, until you made this post. It is obvious you knew what you were doing was wrong. Are you really looking for "sympathy," or did you know, as you must have, that the reprimands were coming? I suspect the latter.

Do not allow your conscience to be so easily manipulated by the outside world. If you're a bad person, don't pretend to be good.

Thank you Ted....and I mean that. The more and more I think about it, the more and more I am glad 2+2 DOES have a strong enough moral fiber to not smother me with sympathy. I won't make any excuses for my behavior...I'm going to send myself to bed without dessert tonight so I can think about what I did. I'm also going to cut a check for $28 (price of my blinds*number of atrocities committed) to the local Y, and I contacted the casino this morning to inform them that this dealer needs to be re-trained.

Putting that as bluntly as you did really made me think. I honestly feel worse that my brain tried to tell me it was okay than I would if I would have told myself it was wrong and went ahead and did it anyways. Making a responsible decision in the situation I faced yesterday is something that I expect out of myself, so I really need to re-evaluate my thought processes in the very near future.

Don't ever change.

Doug
