Default betting the river

I had QJo and was heads up last to act. The flop was 8h 8d Qh. He checked. I bet; he called. The turn was 9c. He checked. I bet; he called. The river was 10s. He checked. I bet and he raised. I called. He had Jh 7h and made an inside straight. My instincts tell me to bet the river because there are so many calling stations out there. However, I wonder if this was an example of the adage to not bet the river if your opponent is likely to either fold or raise.

I think you should reread your post, there's got to be a typo in there.

There's no typo. Why do you think that?

If you have QJo on a Q,8,8,9,10 board, then you have a straight as well. The initial post and your response proposing that you could fold to the river raise suggest that you lost the hand.
