Why doesn\'t Andy B play straight draws?
2/4 stud on UB
I start with (Ts9d) 8h in a loose-passive game excepting loose cannon on my right. 2c brings in, 9s calls, 7h 2d fold, 5d calls, I call 2c 3c 9s 5s 5d 4c ((Ts9d)8h 7c so checked to 5d maniac who bets, I raise, both call, he reraises, I cap. 2c 3c 5c 9s 5s Qc 5d 4c 7s ((Ts9d)8h 7c 6c repeat last street's action. 2c 3c 5c Ad 9s 5s Qc Kh 5d 4c 7s Kd ((Ts9d)8h 7c 6c Kc checked to me, I bet, all call 2c 3c 5c Ad 9s 5s Qc Kh 5d 4c 7s Kd ((Ts9d)8h 7c 6c Kc (Tc) Checked to me, I bet, all but 9s5s calls. Re: Why doesn\'t Andy B play straight draws?
Pretty straightforward - well, I'd play it that way.
Nice of your maniac to help you jam for value on 4th when all your 6's and J's are live. If you can get 4 players to go to the river when 2 streets get jammed, then heck, even Andy B might play a straight draw on 3rd. |

Re: Why doesn\'t Andy B play straight draws?
Why raise 4th? To drive players OUT while you have a draw?
Andy doesn't play str8 draws because str8 draws generally suck rotten eggs. Especially medium and small str8 draws. If you had caught a pair with your hand, you would have had a marginal holding. Flush draws are also better with high cards for the same reason. I'd be more inclined to play a (K Q)J str8 draw than the one you did, but I still wouldn't call a raise with it. Your hand I would almost always fold. al |

Re: Why doesn\'t Andy B play straight draws?
Well, I gathered the maniac had next to nothing, so I either have it headsup with a ton of dead money or a value cap. In any case, maniac has pocket JJ at the river. Sadly, the guy on my left has some combo of Ac Jc 6x to take the pot. Really didn't think he had 2 after all of them die. So folks, that is why Andy probably doesn't play 'em

Re: Why doesn\'t Andy B play straight draws?
I play straight draws. I don't like them, but I play them. Well, I like KQJ, because you can make a big pair or big two pair to win. You can't do that with 654, which I will frequently muck for the bring-in.
T98 I will play, even for a full bet. I think that the specific example cited in 7CS4AP is JT9 with a Q and a 7 gone, so your hand has to be playable if it's live. Jamming with your live draw on fourth is just fine if you can get people to call. You are out of position, so I'd probably just call on fourth, but I'm less imaginative than some. Other than that, pretty straightforward. Hope you won. |
