Default Small stakes noob question

I occassionally play limit at Potawatomi. An aquaintance at the home game I play in plays limit & NL there regularly. He says not to bother with the 3/6 limit, and to play at higher limits because the players are better--better because at 3/6 limits nobody ever folds.

Any truth to this?

Read SSH. You want those types of players. Make this work to your advantage. And yes, the 3/6 games at any casino are like any home game, with tons of multiway "family" pots.

The naivity of this question is greatly overshadowed by the stupidity of your friend's notion that it's easier to beat better players at higher stakes.

Start at the lowest limits. Revel in the loose moronic players who chase everything to the river. IGNORE everything your "friend" says (he's a clueless moron with no perspective on reality at all). Read enough books (preferably with the 2+2 label so you know they are at least decent) to understand why I might respond this way to this question.

Your friend doesn't understand where the money comes from in poker, and/or doesn't know how to adapt his play to super-loose games. Is there truth to what he says? Only in the sense that a player who's unable to adapt his play to a certain kind of game will do poorly in that kind of game. But you don't want to be a player who can't adapt to super-loose games where everyone calls to the river with ace-high!

As the other respondent said, check out SSHE. Also GSiH addresses the folly of "My opponents are too loose/not good enough!"

One of these days I'll paraphrase the argument and stick up a wiki article to post in reply to the next person who asks a variation of this question.

Besides all this Capn' Obvious business,

Why do you want to play higher stakes when you are just starting out? This is a recipie for losing lots of money! If you can afford to lose lots of money, go ahead. But you will lose. If you play small stakes, you may get unlucky, you may play wrong, but the price of knowledge will be much less.

Wait, what am I saying! Please play above your bankroll at high stakes, particularly in AC, at the Taj, on, say, Dec.3rd.

I hear guys say this all the time in my 10-20 game as they're moving up from 4-8. And they say it so 'defiantly'. Did I mention how great the 10-20 game is with these idiots?

Read Al's post. Print it out and put it on the fridge.
