Next time try posting the entire hand. How are we supposed to help you when we don't even know who is in the pot?

Sorry, something went wrong with the results in the text file. I was first to act UTG with 44:

NL Texas Hold'em $10 Buy-in + $1 Entry Fee
Level:4 Blinds(50/100)
Seat 9 is the button
Total number of players : 7
Seat 3: UTG+1 ( $1840 )

Seat 2: Hero(UTG) ( $1120 )

Then why does the title say BB? Well, if you're UTG, fold.

Extremely easy fold.

Is this because of the risk of overcards or a higher pair with 6 other players still around?

Out of interest what about 44 on the button and everyone folds? ...or
99 UTG (i.e. same scenario as with the 44 in this post)?

you still have enough chips to get through the blinds and still have a decent stack. Your 44 is going to be a coinflip at best. You don't need to make a desperate push yet.

1)44 UTG, fold. With 6 other hands out you are not likely to just take the blinds and the range of hands people call you with dominates too often and is never better than a flip (Very rarely, though, a spectacular donkey will call you with deuces or treys.) Also, there are three stacks more desperate than you and you can find better stealing opportunities later.

2) 44 on button, everyone folds...PUSH. You only have one stack that can truly hurt you to get through. You are forcing him to decide for all his chips and he's not desperate yet. You want the short stack to call you so you can play a pot for 285 with 100 in dead big blind money in.

3) 99 UTG This hand is more interesting. There are now only 5 overpairs that have you as a 4 to 1 dog. There are also an additional 5 underpairs that you would dominate. While the big stacks aren't likely to double you up by calling with these underpairs (except maybe 77 or 88), the 800 ish stacks almost certainly would call. I would probably raise to 400 or 450 with this hand rather than push, and make a crying call if a big stack puts me in, and a happy call if the 800 stacks reraise. Also, a non-push but higher than standard raise from a medium stack always seems scary to me.

You aren't that desperate yet, and you have 6 people left to act behind you. When you consider a push with a marginal hand that you really don't want to see called, the number of people left to act is considerably more important than how marginal your hand is. Trash folded to you on the button or SB is better than 44 with 6 left to go.
