Default JJ, low board, and a donkey

Well, by the end of the hand, you'll see there were two donkeys.

SB is 51/6/1.6
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (8 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Hero ($47.20)
CO ($35)
Button ($55.15)
SB ($24.40)
BB ($41.05)
UTG ($46.40)
UTG+1 ($67.60)
MP1 ($40.25)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
<font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $1.5</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, SB (poster) calls $1.25, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>.

Flop: ($3.50) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $2</font>, SB calls $2.

Turn: ($7.50) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $5</font>, SB calls $5.

River: ($17.50) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets $10</font>, Hero ????

I'm of the opinion, after the fact, that I should have banged out a much higher bet on the flop, to find out where I stand. Although would his calling a, say, pot sized bet have given me any extra information?

79 is a possibility for the straight as is a missed flush draw. But a flush draw that paired his king might block the river like this. I'd probably fold. You represented a big hand from the start and villain doesn't seem to care.

Given that his VP$iP is 51%, certainly A8s or maybe even A8o.

What's the opinion on the flop bet? Should have been pot size? Does 1/2 vs. 2/3 vs. pot size make much of a difference against a donk?

I think you played it fine, perhaps raise a bit more preflop. I'd make the flop bet $3, but I'm not so sure its a big deal.

I'd fold on the river.
