Don't know what I am doing with middle pair.

Look at the mess I get in here with my betting of middle pair. Once I failed to lead out I was all at sea.

UTG is 71/19/.94 He has picked up quite a few cheap pots off of the rest of the table when he won without showdown but has been more wary of me as I have re-raised him a few times.

Yes it probably is as simple as that isn't it? In a raised pot with an overcard on board I bet it all the way with say JJ so don't know why I treated this differently.

I DO think the check/call was better on the river here though as he tended to fold the river with nothing but would always bet it if checked to.

yeah this about sums it up

you only have to make a decision if you get raised or if he is very passive you might check/call the river in case he has a weak K

I'd lead the flop.

I think check/calling river is better than leading out also. The 3 on the river did not make his hand, so you might be beat here.
