Pokerstars and Poker tracker

From what I have gathered Pokerstars doesn't like poeple having Poker Tracker. I play mostly at poker stars and I do own poker tracker, but I dont use poker tracker for datamining or in conjunction with programs like gametime. I only use poker tracker to keep track of my winnings and tournament summaries.

How are they able to determine one person using it for mining and another player who isnt? How do they even know you have poker tracker? From what i can tell, there really isnt any way for them to know.
