he could have called you with A9 and flopped trips or mabye caught a set on the turn. I dont see him making a straight. Youre getting 3:1 odds though to call on the river I would call.

nope but if he leads in to you on the turn with an A or K its fairly obvious fold.

and with the check behind, he won't be bluffing with any pairs below QQ if the turn hits A or K.

so you have to weigh the possibilities that he has A or K and an A or K hits the turn vs the pot control advantages of checking the flop.

Its not a 100% thing but there are benefits to checking the flop.
