Default NHL Pick for today 11-1-05

No one can dispute that power plays have been a huge factor in the new NHL. At times we are seeing 10 or more per game. It stands to reason that teams that have good special teams have a big advantage. Today we have what stands out to be a mismatch on special teams.

Minnesota Wild are scoring at a rate of 23.8% of the time on the power play. That is 3rd in the NHL. They are killing penalties at 93.3%. 2nd best in the NHL.

At the other end of the spectrum we have the Calgary Flames who are scoring at 12.4% and killing at 75.6%. This is 27th and 26th in the NHL Respectivly.

In fact, in addition to the power play numbers Minnesota seems to be a better team in every area of the game. My numbers say Minnesota should be a small favorite, the books say otherwise.

I am taking Minnesota +121 (in Calgary) for what looks to be decent value.

YTD: 1-1 (+.17units)
